Busy Work
I've had a problem this last couple of weeks with 'busy work'. If you don't know what that is, it's stuff that makes you look like you're working, but is meaningless and time-filling rather than achieving anything.
I've been doing lots of busy work rather than doing actual productive stuff and so I've had to get tough on myself again. I've switched off all the distracting apps on my phone and I've removed all the social media apps, and I've set myself tasks for each day that require the very simple thing of bum on seat writing until the days tasks are done.
As a poet my top priority task should be creating poetry. My next important tasks should be doing things that inspire poetry, but I lost sight of that by getting caught up in things that aren't that important to my central focus.
And so today I've written the first draft of a poem and a blog post about how I've been distracted from what I want to be doing by the busy work that makes it look like I'm actually working hard.
But this will be the last post for a while because I'm not a blogger.
